Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior representative said the attack made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
